The Quick Chek Story

History

The Quick Chek story begins in 1888, when Durling Farms was founded to serve the central New Jersey region. Over the following 75 years, the Durling Farms brand grew to become synonymous with quality milk and dairy products, delivered fresh to the customer’s door.

In 1967, Carlton C. Durling founded Quick Chek to ensure that loyal Durling Farms customers had a convenient and friendly place to purchase their fresh dairy products. Much more than a typical convenience store, Quick Chek became the neighborhood shopping destination, delivering fresh dairy, sliced deli and fill-in grocery products in a local community “superette” format.

Quick Chek has grown from its very first location in Dunellen, N.J., to its present position as the premier convenience store chain in the New York Metro market. Today, we remain a privately held, family-owned firm, operating more than 120 stores throughout New Jersey and southern New York, and employing more than 2,600 team members.

Quick Chek is guided by the principles of Total Customer Dedication, always committed to delivering what the customer wants. Since our beginning in 1967, Quick Chek continues to redefine the term convenience and remains the market leader in food service, fresh coffee, fast fuel and friendly people; something we call “Fresh Convenience.”

Our mission is to be a Great Place to Work and a Great Place to Shop. All strategies are grounded in that mission, and guided by our core values.

Community Involvement

Quick Chek has a long history of giving back to the neighbors and communities that we serve. With each new store opening, Quick Chek donates money to one of the many local charity organizations that helps keep that community going. Thousands of dollars are donated to organizations throughout the New York Metro market each year.

Quick Chek also shows support for its communities by participating in locally sponsored events, such as the Branchburg Charity Golf Outing, the Midland Run, Highland’s Beach Cleanup Day and Warwick’s Taste of the Town celebration. Keeping residences in touch with each other at Quick Chek sponsored events, like the Ulster “Coffee and Conversation” series, is an important part of helping to make Quick Chek a Great Place to Shop.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

Think we’re impressive behind the counter? You should see us get behind a cause! Every year team Quick Chek supports the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) through a multi-tiered program that includes sneaker sales, a golf outing, community fundraising walk and bike ride events, and more. Quick Chek team members, family, friends and customers all get involved in the program, which is spearheaded by Quick Chek Senior Vice President Mike Murphy, an active JDRF board member and president of the nonprofit organization’s mid-New Jersey chapter.
